I found my globalization essay/rant that I did for my globalization final. There a no doubt tons of proofreading error, but who cares. I think you can still get the main points out of it. So... yeah... help fill up more space on my blog....
It has been said numerous times that there is no one definition of globalization. It is hard to agree or disagree with something that you do not know what it is. I began to ponder this and formulate my own definition. Is globalization and economic, political, or social concert? My insight came by rotating the “z” in globalization 90* to the left, changing and ‘z’ to an ‘n’. By doing this you get gloabi-nation. Globalization is the creation of a global nation. Corporations in our nation play a huge role in all aspects of society in America. If corporations are to pursue globalization, they must take responsibility in the gloabi-nation.
One quality of globalization is the blurring of economic borders. Economic “nations” like the WTO, IMF, and World Bank, are the governing powers of this economic nation. If those organizations are the government then corporations are the politicians like representatives and senators. Corporations today mainly care only out advancing our economy in the US. They out-source labor to raise profits which drive our economy and make them money. There is nothing wrong with wanting a powerful, robust, economy. But as the world economy expands, corporations must take the responsibility to make sure everyone in the world gets a fair chance to participate and benefit from it, not just the US. This means paying people enough money to allows them to participate in economics. Economy is the buying and selling of good and services. People with scarcely enough to buy food are being denied the right to actively participate in the global economic nation.
The second aspect of gloabi-nation is the “Global social nation.” This aspect is harder to comprehend in our diverse world. My idea of the social aspect is that everyone in the world is treated humanely and is given the opportunity to be all they can be. What does this have to do with corporations? Corporations employ millions worldwide. In many less developed countries the workers are paid dirt cheap wages and are forced to work as much as 20hr a day. Working 20 hrs a day leaves only 4 hrs to sleep and no time for education, recreation, or personal development. Once they are “too old” to work, their families have no money to support them because of low wages. With food or money the “old” people just die. Some companies claim this in not their responsibility. However back here in America, companies have already recognized that responsibly, pay retirement benefit, and cover whole families’ medical bills, and gives other social help. Since most people in America work only 8 hrs a day and can work until they are much older, they have many opportunities for personal growth. If companies recognize that responsibility here, they must recognize it in the “Global Social Nation.”
The last major aspect of globalization is politics. Politics run everyone and covers everyone, so politics is directly related and effected by globalization. With an eventual creation of a gloabi-nation, what role will political systems in individual areas play? I believe their role will be like states in America. To give more personal attention to each area. Since government need money to operate and money come from the economy and the economy is run by corporations and people, they all have a role in and responsibility to that global political system. For corporations to recognize their economic and social responsibilities, they must have a responsibility to and respect for political power. If corporations could respect local nations and world political power and authority, it would be a huge step on our way to a better world. Accepting globalization will require sacrifice for everyone, everywhere. People must start to care about each other, no matter the differences. Governments must realize their obligation to the people. Corporations must accept a leading role in bettering our world, and maybe, just maybe, accept $4 billion and profit ratter than $6 billion. If we can all do this the regard and benefits will be beyond comprehension. Corporations have the potential to be the greatest superheroes ever. Even greater than Superman himself. Let us all realize our role in this inevitable gloabi-nation.
I think the senior Gov/Econ class was one of the best classes I took in my four years at NG. Especially with Campopiano. He is easy on homework and stuff, but make you pay attention in class, and actively think. We have lots of discusstions and debate which were always fun, because I got to piss on the right-wingers, with my left-wing propaganda. So that class in something to look forward to, all you non graduates, especially is you get Campopiano.
So whats up with me? Nothing at all. All worked 5 days this past week, and I think four this comming week. I guess thats a good thing because it means a bigger paycheck, and I wouln't be doinging anything anyways if I wasn't at work. hmm... all my post start to sound similar don't they... oh well... that just the way the cookie crumbles. Ok, I guess thats it... bye bye.
